APPRENTICE CASE STUDY

Jamie Bryce is our Assistant Food and Safety Officer also undertaking an apprenticeship
Apprenticeship title: Regulatory Compliance Officer – L4 Advanced Apprenticeship
Educational institution: Credit Services Association (CSA)
Jamie started his role as Assistant Food and Safety Officer with Amadeus in February 2019. As part of this role he is working towards a L4 Advanced Apprenticeship as a Regulatory Compliance Officer.
The 16-month apprenticeship will see Jamie gain day-to-day practical experience with Amadeus’ Health and Safety team, spending one day a week studying with the CSA. This is the first apprentice role of its kind for Amadeus and one of a handful currently running in the UK, with a L4 Advanced Apprenticeship equivalent to a foundation degree at University.
As part of his role he will be undertaking food and safety audits for Amadeus’ varied venue and supplier portfolio, as well as looking after allergen audits and food complaints.
Jamie carved out a career in hospitality and catering, starting first as a chef before spending three years working for Amadeus as a Deputy Catering Operations Manager.
He is excited about the opportunities the apprenticeship will bring. He commented: “When this opportunity came up with Amadeus I jumped at the chance. I was thinking about studying environmental health at university in order to progress my career, but the apprenticeship role was perfect as it allowed me to stay in work while also studying and furthering my education.
I have loved working for Amadeus over the past three years so I’m thrilled to be able to stay with the business and develop. I would recommend apprenticeships to anyone – however, if they are undertaking a higher-level apprenticeship like myself they have to be prepared to put in the work as it’s a big commitment on top of a regular job!”
Jamie joins a small team of just two other Food and Safety Officers looking after a large venue and events portfolio, with all venues requiring audits twice a year.
Sean Hopkinson, Senior Food and Safety Officer, explains:“Food is our product and so food safety has to be our number one priority and we pride ourselves on our 100% 5 food hygiene ratings across all of our businesses. As Amadeus grows as a business it’s important to grow our team so we can continue to ensure standards don’t drop across the business. By bringing the apprenticeship role into our team we are building a future pipeline of talent, trained to the standards and specifications that we need.”
