The aroma of coffee beans is even more aromatic in the halls at the NEC Birmingham as Amadeus makes a toast to their inaugural artisan coffee gurus.

Since the inception of the Amadeus Artisan Academy in May, the journey for the selected individuals to mastery has been brewing with passion, skill, and resilience. We're thrilled to announce that two Amadeus trainees have emerged as certified coffee connoisseurs.

Crafting coffee isn't merely about the end product in the cup, it's about the journey of the bean and the soul behind the barista. The gurus spent a significant amount of time refining their skills, ensuring every cup they serve is a masterpiece.

And now, when you come across them, don’t hesitate to ask for a coffee. Let your taste buds be the judge.

Dominic Corbin: A True Coffee Virtuoso

Dominic is a pioneering and creative team leader at StrEAT Kitchen at the NEC Piazza and embarked on this journey with an infectious enthusiasm.

Dominic's resilience helped shape the academy's growth trajectory. While he had always been passionate about coffee, his journey through the academy transformed him into the embodiment of coffee knowledge. From understanding the history and intricacies of the bean to leading training sessions, Dominic's contributions to the academy have been commendable.

Dominic said: “The Amadeus Artisan Academy expanded my horizons, delving deep into the journey of coffee from bean to cup. The assessments allowed me to gauge my progress, understand the nuances of brewing, and sharpen my skills. I am excited about our continuing coffee journey.”

Lakshmi Sudheer: A Star on the Horizon

The second guru, Lakshmi, began her journey with no prior knowledge of coffee and had never created a drink on machines like Amadeus’. Her tenacity, paired with her infectious smile and unparalleled milk texturing skills, quickly set her apart. She makes the perfect flat white and lattes with the silkiest sheen.

The Amadeus Artisan Academy team deserves commendation for mentoring Lakshmi, transforming her from someone without a bean of coffee knowledge (mind the pun) to a fully-fledged guru.

Her achievements culminated during her final assessment at the NEC's on-stand catering unit during Solar and Storage Live 2023. It wasn't just about Amadeus celebrating Lakshmi, but also the very impressed client who had the privilege of tasting her craft and celebrating alongside the team.

Coffee is an art, a science, and a passion. At the Amadeus Artisan Academy, the team are dedicated to elevating this art, ensuring our gurus not only brew the perfect cup but also recite the history around it.

With six more potential gurus in training, Amadeus’ coffee journey is just beginning, and we're excited about the adventures that lie ahead. The future of Amadeus’ guru’s is exactly that, a team of excelling baristas that can deliver fantastic coffee wherever they work, whether it be within one of the fixed catering units or on one of the on-stand barista packages on offer.

Not only do they serve fantastic coffee, they serve it with the knowledge and passion of where the seed became the bean, and the bean became the drink.

Thank you to all the Amadeus Artisan Academy team (Emma Thomas, Valentine Rey & Tomas Jankevicius) for their support and efforts in mobilising this training programme into where it currently stands.

Cheers to the brews!
